The island´s many sun hours and mild coastal climate makes it a perfect foundation for fantastic local production of vegatables and fruits. From May you can treat yourself with the famous Samsø potatoes and asparagus. Later in the season tasty strawberries, raspberries, peas and other fantastic products.
Samsø has more than 35 different restaurants, which 4 of them are recommended in The White Guide - the best restaurants in Denmark. Even the local pølsevogn (hot dog stand) serves sausages made from local scottish highland cattle. Samsøe cares about good quality!
The island´s long tradition for agriculture is also shown in multiple events speciel to the island. Each year in May the competition; "Samsø´s best potato open-sandwich" is being awarded. In July a Food Festival presents the best local products combined with activities and entertainment to all ages.
Take a bike ride around the island and visit the many local producers and farm shops. You can visit producers of cider, snaps, mayonnaise and the local farmers.
